Vintage Dresses: Paisley Trend

Published on January 17, 2012

Last season we all went 70s mad with pussy bow blouses and midi skirts flooding the high street. And for Spring/Summer it doesn’t seem like much has changed in our love for the decade that brought us flares and funky patterns. Only this season it has evolved… We’ll be going crazy for paisley! But don’t wait for the high street to get in on the act, look for 70s vintage dresses.

Before you go shopping if you need some fashion inspiration, take a look at the Spring/Summer catwalks. Paisley was seen everywhere with designers using it in many different ways. Paisley printed cotton day dresses were seen at Jil Sander, but Stella McCartney and J W Anderson used the iconic print for pyjama pieces (another trend for Spring/Summer… apparently we’ll all be wearing pyjamas outside of the house). Whether this catches on remains to be seen however!

Elsewhere, Emilio Pucci updated its signature print with a range of hues, from pink and scarlet to turquoise and lime. Paul and Joe and Matthew Williamson joined Pucci with their boho inspired designs and beautifully crafted maxi dresses, meaning that if you want to get in on the paisley trend vintage dresses are the place to start.

Look out for vintage maxi dresses and bold boho dresses in paisley print. The great thing about searching for vintage dresses is that you’re much less likely to be seen wearing the same dress as anyone else. Most vintage retailers only stock individual pieces, making it easy to create a stylish and unique look. Mix and match your vintage pieces with new on-trend pieces from the high street for easy style. Your paisley print dress will look great with open toed ankle boots or gladiator sandals for a tough edge. But remember to keep accessories to a minimum and let the print be the focal point of your outfit.
